Good for hiking

Merrell Mens Moab Gore Tex Waterproof

Merrell Mens Moab Gore Tex Waterproof

I have had these boots for about two weeks now and have put them through the paces almost every day. I really like how comfortable they are and they are relatively light weight. However, today I put them through the test. Got 1.5" of snow last night and this afternoon we had warming conditions- time to hit the trail and see just how waterproof these things are. After work, I got into some hiking gear and slid my Moabs on and hit the trail. About an 1" of melting snow with nice muddy ground underneath the snow. Up and down hills, through some puddles, snow and/ or mud riding on top of my boots the whole time. Never got wet inside. The souls have a pretty good grip to it. Never did I slip going up and down the muddy slopes. The top to part of the boot is made out of kind of a meshy material so on colder days when the wind is blowing, you can feel it a little, but I never became uncomfortable or cold. I am very pleased with this boot so far and hope that it holds up long term in use.

  1. These lightweights do not have a platform stable enough for hauling a heavy backpack, but work great for light backpacking and dayhikes. The GoreTex is effective and they require no break-in period. They are durable and very breathable.

  2. I am writing this review 6 months after purchase. I can honestly say these are the best shoes I have ever purchased. Light, durable, stylish, comfortable, excellent support and reasonable price.

  3. Of all of the boots I have had and used over a decade in the army, and four deployments, these boots are by far the best. They are very comfortable, and offer great protection when walking over rough terain. They will stay water proof for a long time. the only draw back I have found is that if you are in water over the top of the boot they will fill up and there is no way for the water to escape, leaving your feet swimming for the rest of the mission, however, this is easy to fix by not walking in water that deep. over all a verry good boot that i highly recomend

  4. I got a pair of these about 3 years ago at EMS and they are still in great shape. Very comfortable and light, they have good ankle support. I have also never gotten a blister from these and I have had them on for hours at a time. Downside, they aren't water proof, but on the upside they dry out quick. I think I paid around $120 for mine and at that price they are more worth it.

  5. I have worn many boots in my time, both for hiking and hunting. These Moab boots felt like a pair broken in for a year, right out of the box. I bought three pairs for the hikers in our family. One mens , and two womans. We all agree they are awesome boots. Size and width as specified. You will not be unsatisfied.

  7. I've tried the Danner Mountain Boots, Jungles, and Cold Weather Aftermarket Danners to wear over here in Afghanistan for the last six months.

I have to say that these boots are the best I've owned in 9 years of Military Service. Granted, you can't wear them in Garrison but if you want a pair of light boots that help you run up and down rocky mountains while wearing a full combat load doing cartwheels then these boots are for you.

You can feel the rocks under your feet as the rubber soles but it doesn't hurt at all- but I have a definite feeling of good traction when I am moving up these goat trails and random rock formations.

They're super light compared to any issue boots, about a half what jungles weigh.

Also, you don't have to break these in whatsoever. I put them on the night before, walked to get some food and back, then wore them on a 9k dismounted patrol the next day. No blisters or anything.

    Anyhow, I love mine.

  8. Liked the look and the specs of the shoes and ordered tham before a Trip to Himalayas. Got them in time to wear them. Used them extensively on Trails, Gravel, Dirt Road etc., the Shoes had an excellent grip, even on wet slimy rocks while crossing mountain streams etc. the shoes were very comfortable and didn't give me any trouble even after long sessions on trails. The Gore Tex worked well and my socks weren't smelly. The only irritant were the laces which came loose initially, I figured a way to tuck them in which solved the problem. Overall good VFM.
